The strength of RTOERO is in our numbers, and the volume of votes and pressure we can put on government and its agencies to promote the changes that allow for healthy aging for all seniors.

RTOERO is an advocacy voice for us which continues to work to create a more secure and compassionate future for everyone.  It is our turn as members of RTOERO to also advocate on our own behalf to the candidates of these elections across all party lines.

Speak up for 3 Key Issues:

There are several ways we can as individuals support the advocacy initiatives of RTOERO:

  • We need to become informed of each party’s platform and vote for the party that best supports the needs of seniors.
  • We also need to encourage all our friends and families to vote.
  • We should attend an All Candidates Meeting and ask questions that emphasize the needs of seniors. Current issues that are in focus within RTOERO Vibrant Voices advocacy policy are:
    • affordable housing,
    • defined benefit pension plans,
    • access to medical care in a timely manner and
    • improvements in long term care.

Provincial government responsibilities include health care and timely access to medical care, home care and affordable housing. When candidates come to your door or call you,, have some questions ready.

Suggested questions at the Provincial level are:

  • What is your party doing to help older persons receive the health care attention they need while living at home?
  • What is your party’s stand on environmental issues? e.g. reducing plastic waste and effective recycling, improving environmentally friendly transportation systems, and climate change issues?
  • How is your party planning to make our communities age-friendly with barrier free access to all buildings and services.
