Our Activities

RTO/ERO Scarborough/East York District 24 relies heavily on member volunteers to organize activities and events that may be of value to other members in retirement. There are many activities that may appeal to the varied interests of our members.

Book Club A meets in the Agincourt Recreation Centre on the last Wednesday of the month from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Convenors: Gloria Courtney and June Bourdon

Book Club B meets at the Ellesmere Recreation Centre located at 20 Canadian Road (by Costco) on the first Thursday from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Convenors: Danielle Desmarais and Claire Hughes.

Book Club C meets at the Ellesmere Recreation Centre located at 20 Canadian Road (by Costco) on the first Thursday from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Convenors: Danielle Desmarais and Claire Hughes.

Bridge Club – meets every Tuesday, 12:30 – 3:30 at the Ellesmere Recreation Centre, 20 Canadian Rd., just opposite Costco near Warden and Ellesmere, for bridge and friendship. The convenors are Dale and Terry Smith. Players must have a working knowledge of Bridge. Tea and cookies are served.

Hava*Java – meets the last Monday of the Month at Calabria Bakery, 1770 Midland Ave. It is an opportunity to meet, socialize and renew past friendships. The convenor is Chris Elliot.

Knitters and Crafters – The Knitters and Crafters have resumed monthly meetings at Ellesmere Community Centre to prepare items for distribution to Retirement and Long-Term Care homes. The convenor is Chris Elliot

Nordic Walking Club – meets on Wednesdays. Locations vary each week. A weekly message is sent out to club members announcing the next location. The convenor is Paula Chambers.

Fall Luncheon and Craft Show – The Social committee organizes this annual event. The convenor is Susan Watson and Robin Bethke.

Theatre and Event Day Trips are arranged in spring and fall. The convenor is Marilyn Tregwin. Details regarding events and registration are published in our Newsletter and E-News.  If you have an interest in being the host for a new activity, please contact her.

Travelogues are held once a year at the Scarboro Golf and Country Club.  The schedule and topics for the presentations are posted in our Newsletter and E-News. The position is vacant.

Trivia – Our quizmasters have developed questions based on popular topics. Convenor Paula Chambers

  • Executive Meetings: first Thursday of September, November, January, May, June
  • Fall Luncheon/Craft Show: mid-October/ November
  • Fall Forum: mid-October.
  • New Member Breakfast: mid-September, a welcome for new retirees
  • Newsletter Delivery: (approximate) mid-July, mid-October, mid-February
  • E-News sent out at the beginning of January, March, April, May, June, September, November and December
  • Spring Luncheon: mid-May following the Annual General Meeting
